Braintree vs Stripe: Facts and User views

Braintree and Stripe are the two leading developer-friendly payment processors, that have transformed the world of payments processing. What used to be a cumbersome process of contracts, negotiations (if you were lucky enough to be able to do so) and integrations, not to mention the unexplainable delays in getting paid and other operational challenges.

First, a side-by-side comparison of costs and compatibility for these two competitors:

As we see above, the costs of USD acceptance are exactly equal, while the multi-currency pricing is harder to compare. Braintree might be more economical for non-USD transactions. Obviously, compatibility with PayPal and Venmo is a plus for Braintree because all three products are from the same company. Regarding service availability around the world, Stripe is ahead by a few countries, although many are still in "open beta". Both companies support almost the same number of currencies, and are also in partnerships with a almost equal number of marquee clients.

We also provide here a subjective, yet independent, assessment of additional points of comparison between Stripe and Braintree.

However from a developer's perspective, choices may differ. In one of the answers in Quora, a customer chose Braintree because its .Net API is officially supported while it is a 3rd party add-on for Stripe. This means that both the companies have made sure that they offer strong competition to each other. If you observe their website design and user interface, it looks similar with buttons like Features, Pricing, Documentation or Docs and Support. Stripe may be preferred by businesses with international presence so that acceptance of multiple international currencies becomes easier for them.
