A leaked Walgreens memo reveals that the retailer is set to launch Apply Pay on October 18th. Earlier it was rumored that Apple Pay will launch on 20th October. We have also heard from some sources that Apple is making some last minutes tweaks to the system to make it more robust, secure and user-friendly. Its going to take some time because there are a lot of partners (card networks, banks) involved. So its not very clear whether its 18th or 20th or a different date (Will be clear on Oct 16th). The company is holding a special event on October 16th at which it is likely to announce the official launch date.
The memo was posted by MacRumors and reads as follows:

In preparation for the launch of Apple Pay on October 18, we would like you to cover the following material included in the tasks be[...] activation. Walgreens will be one of the participating retailers and we want to make sure that all your team members are prepared [...] customer questions/concerns.
Enabling this new technology will:

Customers that participate in Apple Pay will immediately be able to use the service that is easy, secure, and ensures their privacy at [...] only need to tap their iPhone 6 to the upper portion of the pinpad to pay for their purchase. It is that easy!
