The Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) is back for its fourth year. It continues to be the biggest FinTech event in the world, providing a global platform for the FinTech community to connect, collaborate, and co-create.
This year SFF and the Singapore Week of Innovation & TeCHnology (SWITCH) will come together as SFF x SWITCH during November 11–15, forming a cross-industry platform for learning and greater exchange. The two combined form a comprehensive showcase of innovative technologies across five key sectors – FinTech, Urban Solutions & Sustainability, Health & Biomedical Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, and Digital Services. In 2018, these combined events drew close to 57,000 delegates from almost 130 countries.
SFF is organized by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), in partnership with the Association of Banks in Singapore and collaboration with SingEx Holdings. SWITCH, which focuses on deep tech sectors, is organized by Enterprise Singapore, National Research Foundation, and Intellectual Property Intermediary.
The five-day SFF x SWITCH festival includes conferences, an exhibition, FinTech Awards, Global FinTech Hackcelerator Demo Day, Global Investor Summit, Slingshot, TechInnovation, and the Innovation Lab Crawl.
SFF will feature four major underlying themes that are driving the financial ecosystem forward in 2019. The themes include:
The FinTech conference will also showcase SME digitalization and platforms – Business Sans Borders (BSB). BSB is a global initiative by the MAS and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) to create a first-of-its-kind open platform-of-platforms for seamless trade, financial services, and innovation for SMEs.
SWITCH conference themes are focused around Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, Urban Solutions & Sustainability, Health & Biomedical Sciences, and Services & Digital Economy.
The FinTech award recognizes innovative solutions that have been implemented or deployed by FinTech players, financial institutions, and technology companies.
A total of 12 winners will be selected for S$1.2 million in prizes under four categories: Singapore Founder, ASEAN SME, ASEAN Open, and Global. A good number of this year's submissions came from segments such as RegTech, wealth management, cybersecurity, and financial inclusion.
The Global FinTech Hackcelerator will create impactful, market-ready FinTech solutions that solve real industry needs in three focus areas: Financial Inclusion, Banking & Finance, Insurance, and a general category. This year, the Hackcelerator is running two parallel programs: a local program and a new international program.
For the local program, innovative startups from across the globe are invited to submit market-ready solutions towards 70 problem statements gathered by the MAS from the financial industry. A total of 10 finalists were selected out of 200+ applications from 30+ countries to attend a 12-week program.
To deepen the outreach to the international FinTech community and increase the diversity of the FinTech solutions, the international program is catering towards solving specific problem statements in five countries, including South Africa, USA, and Abu Dhabi.
The Global Investor summit brings 17 venture capital, corporate venture capital, and family office investors from San Francisco to Tokyo, sharing their insights and strategies to unlock growth, impacting inclusion, and long-term value creation in the DeepTech and FinTech space.
Deal Fridays, organized by the MAS and Enterprise Singapore, are highly curated investor-startup matchmaking sessions held every Friday from June to November as a lead up to SFF x SWITCH. To conclude the series of these 17 deal Fridays, deal mixers will be organized between global companies and investors attending the event, which will be held from November 11–13, 2019.
TechInnovation is a unique technology-to-industry matching event that brings together international technology seekers and providers to collaborate & accelerate the commercialization of technology through open innovation.
