The FinTech scene in Italy is small but growing; in total, more than 100 startups have committed to innovating the financial sector. Its potential is high and so is the interest by the more established stakeholders, like banks and other corporations. However, the industry still lacks a solid ecosystem. Fintech-up aims at strengthening it through its regular FinTech meetups, which gather various stakeholders from the sector and its surroundings. Launched back in November in Milan, by Irene Tordera and Gianluca Iorio, Fintech-up is an after-work meet-up for the players of the FinTech sector and its stakeholders, where they can discuss trends and challenges, share opinions and network over a glass of wine. Each event features a different topic, three or four sector’s players presenting it and more than one hour of networking. While the first Fintech-up looked at the various challenges posed to the traditional financial sector, the second one focused on blockchain and its FinTech applications. Both events gathered between 60 and 90 participants, a perfect size for meeting people.
Our goal is to help connecting the Italian FinTech actors, foster an ongoing dialogue among them and other stakeholders and eventually contribute to the creation of a solid FinTech ecosystem, says Irene, the organizer of Fintech-up.
In this regard, Fintech-up has recently partnered with MEDICI, to offer international exposure to its community members. The future events – scheduled on a bimonthly basis for the moment – will cover topics such as InsurTech, marketing strategies to reach millennials and cybersecurity in FinTech.
Through our events, we aim at involving as many stakeholders as possible and we are always open to link and meet with interested professionals on a national and international level, says Gianluca, the Co-organizer.
Irene and Gianluca met at the first Fintech-up. Irene is a business developer and crowdfunding expert, who started Fintech-up out of her curiosity to learn more on the topic and play an active role within the sector. Gianluca is a former business consultant, specialized in InsurTech and FinTech, and is now launching his own startup. They share a common passion for innovative ideas in the financial sector.
