MovieTickets.com, one of the largest online movie ticketing portals in the US, is now enabling film-goers to purchase movie tickets with bitcoin at 985 theaters.
The move was made possible through the partnership of GoCoin, a digital currency payment platform, with MovieTickets.com and Open Road Films, an American movie studio. This partnership will help increase the bitcoin’s user base.
With Open Road Films being the distributor, indie comedy movie Dope is stated to become the first movie to accept bitcoin for ticket sales. GoCoin will provide a payment gateway on MovieTickets.com for over 900 US theaters that are set to run the movie. Buyers can purchase tickets online at MovieTickets.com similar to credit card purchases. In addition, it paying with bitcoin is a simpler process since a user need not enter all of the information usually required with credit cards.
Dope is fresh, innovative and cutting edge. This partnership reflects all of those qualities of the movie, stated Open Road Film’s Chief Marketing Officer Jason Cassidy. Bitcoin is an integral part of Dope and we could not be more excited to bring this unique new opportunity to moviegoers.
CEO of MovieTickets.com Joel Cohen stated, MovieTickets.com thrives on these types of opportunities. It’s cool, it’s original and we’re going above and beyond the common boundaries to drive ticket sales.
As a Los Angeles-based company, GoCoin is targeting the entertainment verticals with specific payment solutions that remove friction for both the merchant and consumer, said GoCoin’s Founder & CEO, Steve Beauregard. Our goal is to create a one-stop payments and loyalty solution for merchants to streamline checkout and expand sales while protecting the consumer’s privacy.
GoCoin is the first checkout solution designed to accommodate bitcoin and other popular altcoins like litecoin and dogecoin. They give their clients’ customers the convenience of choice, and in turn, the client can choose to keep the coins or instantly exchange them to the preferred currency.
MovieTickets.com is the leader in advance movie ticketing with 240 theater chains representing over 28,000 screens worldwide in its group, offering moviegoers a quick and convenient way to purchase tickets online via mobile devices and at 877-789-MOVIE.
