Grantoo brings one of the most interesting ideas we’ve seen in a while to the table – it allows college students to compete against each other in a social gaming platform, with winners earning tuition grants and donating to charity at the same time.
Grantoo was Co-Founded in September 2009 by Dimitri Sillam and Mikhael Naayem. They’ve also lured away EA CTO Alan Price to serve in the same capacity for their startup. The company has received a total funding of $2.48 Million through investors Angyal Capital, Olivier Douce, Olivier Legrain, Daniel Hechter, Jacques Berrebi, Pierre Lavail and Maya Bassil.
This video gives you an overview of their platform:
- Grantoo lets college students earn grants to help pay for those costly tuitions and, in turn, requires them to donate between 10 and 100 percent of their winnings to a charity of their choice.
- This includes Partners In Health, The Hunger Project, Pencils of Promise, Engineers Without Borders & MAMA, among others.
- Those sponsoring Grantoo’s tournaments get to participate in the charitable giving as well.
In July 2013, Grantoo announced that it had delivered great results in mobile ad campaigns that go beyond typical banner ads. “Grantoo is the best beyond-the-banner mobile advertising solution,” said Jon Nolz, V.P of mobile advertising at Hipcricket. “Running our client’s campaigns on their platform has outperformed expectations and delivered amazing results.”
